Featured Woman
Julie Portman, Principal – Investment Banking, Edward Jones
Julie was born in St. Louis at St. Mary's Hospital. She grew up with her parents and three older brothers in Dellwood in the county. Julie received an associate's degree from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, a bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State University) and a master's degree from Lindenwood University. Julie has been in Investment Banking at Edward Jones for 15 years and was named a General Partner in 1999.
After a day at the office, Julie spends her evenings being a mom to an 11 and 2 year old - which means nightly doses of homework checking, long-term project oversight, reading stories, doing puzzles and giving baths. In March, Julie and her husband are excited to welcome another son. When she has time to herself she loves to read, workout, and spend time with her husband golfing, traveling and dining out.
We asked this fascinating lady some fun questions and here are some of her responses:
1- What's your favorite food? Imo's Pizza - I am pregnant so truly anything sweet or in the junk food category.
2- What's the last book you read? Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer. I started the series 2 weeks ago and can't put them down. I am currently about half way through Eclipse.
3- Do you have a favorite quote? "Please God, if you can't make me thin make my friends fat!" I got it via email and thought it was so funny I printed it out and have it up in my office.
4- What's your favorite drink? That's a mean question at the moment… Red Wine
5- What is something that most people you work with don't know about you or, if they do know it, they find surprising? I have sky dived – no not tandem, I'm not a wimp.
6- What makes you mad? People who drive slow in the fast lane!
7- What makes you happy? The sound of my kids laughing!
8- What kind of movies do you like to watch? I love dramas and comedies. We have traditions in my home, Sunday night is movie night so we watch at least one every week. We have to watch Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Home for the Holidays, and Planes Trains and Automobiles every Thanksgiving break. We also own about 25 Christmas movies so we watch many the whole month of December!
9- Hobbies? I love to read, workout and watch my oldest child compete at baseball and golf. I also love golfing and traveling with my husband.
